i am remodeling my parents kitchen but i am 13 and i need some great ideas like what to put in there or give me a website i need all the help because my parents have done so much for me and i want to do something to help them my budget is around $500-$600 dollars. thanks
www.diynetwork.com is my resource for remodeling my 60 year old house on a budget. I resently redid my kitchen…sand, prime, paint, new hardware…took brown varnish to…a vanilla cream, yellow, and crome modern kitchen. There was a lot more to it but my point is paint is $17 a gallon and hardware is as much as $5 a fixture. This is what they’ll tell you and show you at DIY network. I was looking at some lovely kitchen designs with suspended seats and wanted some feedback on whether there are any safety or other concerns to worry about with the seats. Personally I think they look great.

Well, the idea isn’t really any different than what you find in the restaurant industry. The key is structural integrity. You’ll notice in that link that all of the seats are supported by steel of some sort. The island or ‘bar’ itself must also be strong structurally to support the seats and individuals, as well as be anchored to the floor.
On the ‘pro’ side, it does keep your seating nice and neat. No one is going to drag the chair or stool off someplace else.
On the ‘con’ side…. you are limiting the size of the individual who can use the seat. Someone short might find it difficult to climb into, and anyone with long legs is going to be uncomfortable trying to fit in there, hehehe. Being a tall individual myself, I prefer seating I can pull out to where I am comfortable. If I were invited to sit at an island like that, I’m afraid I’d have to just stand nearby.
I guess the bottom line is, Do you like it enough to limit your seating options?
Good Luck
I am trying to decide in my about 16 ft 9 in x 11 ft 4 in kitchen what to do on one 11 wall there is a 6 ft slider door directly across there is a basement and garage door there is currently an island separating the eating and kitchen areas and both areas are a bit too small for what they are intended what I am considering is making the whole space(11 4x 16 9) kitchen and putting a eat around island with bar stools similar to a chair and putting cupboards on all wall space, then basically I would just be using the island as a table as well instead of having a separate table and island and would also gain more cupboard space and more walk way, I would keep a triangle for cooking washing etc just enlarge it and would have a foot to foot and a half bumpout on island for leg room what do you think? the sliders go to a covered patio that will be refinished into a dining room come spring of 2009 we have a booster chair, high chair and two adults in reg chairs and another baby on the way
Sounds like you have done a pretty good designing job. If you have a yahoo360 account, you should post some pictures so that answerers can look at it.
Hey
So I need to redecorate. I really do!
I’m an artist, I love Death Cab, I’m a photographer, I paint, etc, love anything artistic and a little bit different.
I like in a one bedroom, small kitchen, small shower room, small room (with built in wardrobes) hallway and toilet apartment. Can’t paint the walls. I want some design ideas.
Anything, help!
Oh, and I’m practically broke. Hahah, cheers!
Small spaces tend to be dark and drapes and too much going on can make them seem claustraphobic. I’d think of doing something with lighting and mirrors. That way you’re not painting the walls and everything is moveable and can change with your mood. You could light up a few choice pieces of photography as a show piece.
i want to rip out and remodel my entire kitchen and have a few ideas but i want to know if there is a program that will help me design and help suggest things.i want to do a complete layout but i dont know how.i want to see how different layouts would look for my house, any ideas?
You could download me ![]()
or you could try my sources, I didn’t look at them in much detail but they seem like they will be of some use.
I would like to see some pics if possible please..
I’ve been in construction for 25 years and I’ve remodeled kitchens are you looking for ideas? most of the time it depends on the layout of the area to be remodeled and if there is any other area than can be opened up or an adjoining room that area can be taken from. I live in a small town and never took pictures of the projects. Most of the business was word of mouth.
I would like to do a little remodeling in my kitchen, but I don’t want to spend a ton of money. My plan looks good in my head, but I’m not sure if it will work in reality. Here is what I am thinking:
Get rid of the laminate counter top on the kitchen island, lay down some wood and then tile it. (A friend has given me a ton of 6×6 smooth white tile). Remove the laminate back splash and use the remainder of the white tile as my back splash, which I will lay all the way up to the base of the cabinets. Finally replace the remaining laminate counter tops and install new laminate countertops, the ones from home depot with waterfall edges that look like granite counter tops. With the tile being free, the remaining materials would run me about $150. It will probably take me a weekend to get through.
Is this is great remodel idea that will save me money and result in a unique and stylish kitchen, or are these shortcuts going to leave me with a confusing and out of place kitchen design?
Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Confusing and out of place kitchen. Pick a counter top and go with it throughout. Laminate doesn’t buy you anything these days. Kitchens are expected to be a stone of some sort….granite, silestone, or any of the new stones. Tile can be done but you would then have to do it for your entire kitchen countertops. Use the tile you have been given for your backsplash and pick a coordinating stone countertop to match it. That would pull your kitchen design together. Kitchens and baths are two areas you shouldn’t go cheap on. It will always affect your resale. If you don’t do it now, you will have to do it later and what you are proposing is just too disjointed and doesn’t flow. You will be wasting your money. Wait until you have the money to do it right.
Not home’s kitchen, is restaurant’s kitchen……………..
Can u all please help me?
This was my school assignment.
Please, i felt tough to find it.

In restaurants, the "island" layout is usually common. See the explaination here:

Peace out!
interested in starting a small breakfast/lunch catering business to local businesses, but I need to find/design a commercial kitchen
you can get kick@zz deals on commercial kitchen equipment on e-bay. There are allot of on line auction houses too.
as far as design goes that’s pretty easy. Primarily you need larger prep areas. Think about a layout that barks ease and efficiency. You don’t want to have obstacles you have navigate. That will slow things down. E.g. The refrigerator Right behind your cooking surface. so all you need do is spin around open and grab what you want. Your prep tables should be strategically placed in reference to final production as well.Flooring you WANT tile and a field drain in the room. A hot water TAP that you can put a garden hose on is time and life saver. My residential kitchen is all commercial grade. Wolf 6 burner 80,000 BTU cook top with a 15,000 cfm vent, dual convection ovens and subzero refrigeration. Even my disposal is big and bad. 5hp badger that will eat cattle bones, cups saucers and just about anything, but…..get this…. a wet dish towel..lol..Cleaning is a breeze. I have a carwash type high pressure nozzel on a hot water line..Ya just blast it ALL down the drain. I set it up buying through on line auction and clearance houses for 14 grand and another 5 on construction. It bumped the value of the house 47K so it was worth doing. It is one of the top mods you can apply to real estate
